Embassy of Georgia to the Republic of Austria

On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war, the national flags are flown at half-mast at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as at Georgia’s diplomatic representations and consular offices abroad, to honour the memory of those who lost their lives.

Eighteen years have passed since the full-scale military aggression launched by the Russian Federation against Georgia. In August 2008, disregarding the fundamental norms and principles of international law, Russia carried out the illegal occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region - inalienable parts of Georgia’s territory - and recognised their so-called independence.

On 29 July 2026, the closing session of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) was held under the Georgian Chairpersonship.

On May 10, 2026, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Austria, Alexander Maisuradze, together with representatives of the LEPL State Service of Veterans Affairs, participated in a commemorative ceremony held on the grounds of the former Mauthausen concentration camp to honour the victims and mark the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp.

Bzikebi" will represent Georgia at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest 2026. On May 8, the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of Austria hosted the musical group “Bzikebi".
